LinkedIn Celebrates Record 300 Million Members

LinkedIn is jumping for joy today. The popular social network for professionals hit a milestone record, gaining in upwards of 300 million members, the company announced Friday.
The U.S. makes up about 100 million of the crop while the other 200 million hail from the rest of the world. LinkedIn plans to devote much of their focus on the international audience, as they strive to become a driving force in the global labor pool.

“While this is an exciting moment, we still have a long way to go to realize our vision of creating economic opportunity for every one of the 3.3 billion people in the global workforce,” LinkedIn’s Deep Nishar wrote in a blogpost about the 300 million milestone.
In a little over a year’s time, LinkedIn has succeeded in averaging 6.6 million new registrations a month since January 2013, when they hit the 200 million registered members mark.
Aside from the U.S., the two largest LinkedIn member countries are India and Brazil, as the company has recently witnessed major growth from these two areas of the map. LinkedIn has now set its sights on the 140 million professionals in China, hoping to draw them in with the beta version of its new Simplified Chinese site, that was initiated at the start of the year.
Similar to Facebook, Twitter and other trendy social networking sites, LinkedIn is hoping to increase mobile device usage as a way to expand community participation. It will have its “mobile moment” later this year, when mobile will account for more than 50 percent of overall site traffic, said Nishar. Currently, its already receiving 15 million profile views, 1.45 million job views, and 44,000 job applications through mobile on an everyday basis.
The company has incorporated a multi-app strategy in order to provide for the mobile user base. They offer core mobile apps for professionals, special apps for recruiters, and specialized apps as seen in its new acquisition, SlideShare, for Android, which allows people to share PowerPoint presentations.
In addition to the company’s announcement, LinkedIn released an infographic depicting the changes that have unfolded over the last five years, for those interested in gaining more information about the LinkedIn community.
