The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Sunday the release of Egyptian drivers and trucks held near the Libyan northeastern town of Ajdabiya.
"Efforts exerted by the Foreign Ministry in coordination with the security authorities concerned were crowned with the release of the Egyptian drivers and trucks," spokesman Badr Abdel-Ati said in a statement.
"Egyptian authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of Egyptians abroad," he added.
Abdel-Ati renewed his ministry's advisory for Egyptians not to travel to next-door Libya unless it is absolutely necessary and to travel by air, not road.
"Egyptians in Libya must exercise utmost caution and vigilance to preserve their lives and safety in view of the unstable political and security situation in Libya," said the spokesman.
Abdel-Fattah al-Dalal, Ajdabiya's security chief, told Anadolu Agency on Saturday that the Egyptian drivers were on their way home thanks to what he described as the good offices of the tribal elders and security officials.
Libyans had detained around 50 Egyptian drivers and their trucks near Ajdabiya to pile pressures on Cairo to release relatives detained in Egypt.
Libya has struggled to restore order and contain armed militias that had helped overthrow late strongman Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
